2014 Episode 17 – The Sleeping Trees Treelogy

Episode seventeen was recorded on the Royal Mile with Alice Carter and John Woodburn from the treelogy called Sleeping with Trees. We discussed how you build year on year as a company coming to the Fringe – from the Free Fringe to one of the major venues. We also discussed rising ticket prices, and how that effects your audience.

2014 Epsiode 16 – Gin & Tonic Productions Ltd present Hamlet

Episode sixteen was recorded in the Gilded Balloon beer garden, with two of the cast members from Gin & Tonic’s Productions Ltd’s production of Hamlet: Isobel Moulder (@isobelmoulder) and Olivier Husband. In this one their was a technical glitch, but we still ended up having a great conversation about being a local and watching the Fringe being built, as well as what it’s like to make a Fringe friend.

2014 Episode 15 – Peter Henderson

Episode fifteen was recorded in the Gilded Balloon cafe (a lovely spot to get some respite from the rain), and I chatted with a lovely man called Peter Henderson where we talked about his show Who Did I Think I Was?. The show is about him and his Dad, and we talked about our relationship with our parents, and how they change as you get older.

If you’re on twitter, give him a follow @coughingsheep. You can also check out the website for more info www.whodidithinkiwas.com.

2014 Episode 14 – The 56

Episode fourteen is a rollercoaster ride. In the middle of the podcast, my guest Matt Stevens-Woodhead and I we were interrupted by an act flyering us for his show, so we let him plug it! We then got back to serious business and discussed the limitations of doing verbatim theatre, as well as creating a new ratings system for how sad a show can be.

If you’re on twitter, give the company Matt is a part of, FYSA Theatre, a follow @fysatheatre. You can also find more information on their website www.fysatheatre.com.

You should go and see FYSA’s production The 56 – you can get all the info you need right here! As promised, if you want to go and see The Cowfoot Prince (who interrupted us) you can find information on the Just Festival website here.

2014 Episode 13 – Lysistrata

Episode thirteen, and I’m talking to (most) of the cast of Lysistrata – an adaptation of the original play by Christopher Adams. We had a really interesting chat, especially since all the cast members I spoke to had different levels of experience at the Fringe prior to this year. We talked about how, as an artist, you can get inspired during the Fringe, and how seeing other people’s work makes you raise your game.

If you’re on twitter, give the company a follow @lysistrataC2. You can also find more information on their website www.lysistrataedinburgh.com. You can also follow each of the members of the group individually:

Christopher Adams (director and adaptor): @chrisedadams

River Hawkins (actor): @riverhawkins

Robert Willoughby (actor): @_mr_whilloghby

Louisa Hollway (actor): @louisa_hollway

Charlotte Mulliner (actor, not on the podcast, but in the show!): @cmulliner

2014 Episode 12 – Jack and I

Episode twelve, and I’ve ventured to C Nova to talk to to two wonderful guys about their show Jack and I: The Jack the Ripper Musical. This follows on from their show last year, and we discussed why it’s important to be a bit silly, and the importance of having fun at the Fringe. They have also, for the record, been nominated for some awards (including the Derek Award for Best Fringe Show!) – so see them before they are celebs!

If you’re on twitter, give the writer a follow @danielhkaes and follow the company @dhkproductions.

Of course, you should also check out the show. You can get all the relevant information and tickets here – go check it out!

2014 Episode 11 – Joanne Allan for Theatraverse

Episode eleven has us sheltering from the end of a hurricane with the lovely Joanne Allan – the Artistic Director for Theatraverse. We discussed the importance of being at the festival as an artist, and the peculiarity that comes with being a bilingual company performing bilingual work. If you’d like to attend the talk at Fringe Central about breaking down language barriers, you can get information about it here.

If you’re on twitter, give the company a follow @theatraverse. You can also check out the company website at www.theatraverse.com to find out more about the company itself!

2014 Episode 10 – Chris Boyd and Stuart Laws

We’ve made it to double digits! Episode 10 is recorded at one of the many Free Fringe venues here in Edinburgh – Banshee’s Labyrinth. I sat down with two comedians, and we discussed many things, including the importance of having a buddy here at the Fringe.

2014 Episode 9 – The Lincoln Company presents Mojo

Episode nine is here, and I’m sitting down with just some of the 20 member strong Lincoln Company. This group is presenting Mojo by Jez Butterworth, although every one of these people is also involved with at least one other show! We talked about what it’s like to live with 20 people, when things don’t live up to the hype, and why it’s important to go and see as many other shows as you can muster while you’re here.

Here’s a list of all the people who I spoke to, along with their twitter handles:

2014 Episode 8 – The Beserker Residents present The Post Show

Episode eight sees me sitting down with the very interesting company  The Beserker Residents - Bradley Wrenn, David Johnson, and Justin Jain. This is their first year at the Fringe, and they have brought with them The Post Show – a post show discussion for a play the audience hasn’t seen! It does involve some improv, some audience participation, and lots of fun. We talked about the challenges of bringing a show to the Fringe for the first time, how they have evolved as a company, and the importance of understanding your audience.

If you’re on twitter, give them a follow @theberserkerres, and you can like them on Facebook here.
